The Gallery
Three Owls Gallery was created as a space for watercolour painting in Chiang Mai—both as a working gallery and as a place to learn.
Situated in the centre of the city, the gallery brings together a large collection of watercolours by Worawuth Srakaeo and his students. It is also an active teaching space, where people of all ages and experience levels come to develop their work.
The focus is simple: to make watercolour accessible, and to create an environment where people can spend time with the medium in a practical and considered way.
Worawuth Srakaeo
Worawuth Srakaeo is a Chiang Mai-based watercolour artist who, after spending over a decade as a novice and monk, returned to painting with renewed focus. He undertook formal training in Bangkok before continuing his studies with local artists, eventually opening his first small studio in 2013, followed by the establishment of Three Owls Gallery in 2015.
Over time, both his work and teaching have developed alongside the gallery, and there is a particular sense of flow in his paintings that people tend to notice. Many come to the gallery to explore how this approach is achieved in practice.
“Kruu Wut is a master artist who makes learning watercolor painting fun, challenging, doable and addictive.”

“We came as two adults with zero painting background. The master is very professional, attentive, and light-hearted.”

Teaching and Learning
Teaching is a central part of the gallery.
Over time, the number of students working with Worawuth has grown steadily, with many returning regularly to develop their skills.
The approach is practical and grounded. Rather than focusing on theory alone, sessions are built around observation, simplification, and working directly from the subject—often outdoors.
Students range from complete beginners to more experienced painters, and the emphasis is on building confidence through consistent practice.
Exhibitions and Work
Worawuth has exhibited regularly in Chiang Mai and beyond, both independently and as part of curated groups. Since 2015, the gallery has hosted regular exhibitions featuring both his work and that of his students.
His work has also developed through travel, including painting trips within Thailand and abroad, which continue to inform new pieces shown in the gallery.
Visiting the Gallery
Three Owls Gallery is open to visitors who would like to view the work, spend time in the space, or learn more about painting in Chiang Mai.
If you are interested in learning, workshops and small group sessions are available throughout the year.
